Blogs are back, baby! Well.. maybe not. But mine is.

I’m well aware that literally nobody cares about mine or anyone’s hot take on twitter. I don’t really have a hot take really, but it’s looming sale gave me a nudge to revisit how I use the platform and if it is really something that is useful in my life. Long story short, I still find twitter valuable as a news source in a few aspects. The solution I ended up going with was to unfollow accounts of people I didn’t personally know, and move many of them over into my RSS reader, Feedly. This solution has worked well so far — it’s nice having everything categorized and alongside my web follows, and since I almost exclusively use Feedly on my computer I ended up removing twitter-lurking from my phone completely.

It also gave me a nudge to finally make this blog, that I registered a domain for in January of 2020. I’m hoping to have it as a place to eventually do some professional writing, but also probably random posts on music, retro gaming and whatever else I’m up to.

I also ended up following the hype back over to Mastodon, which I’ve been enjoying a lot as interesting users make accounts. It feels new and refreshing compared to what twitter has become. You can find me at @mark_ryan@mastodon.social for random posts and @markryan@pixelfed.social for photos.
